What is a recall? The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, generally in cooperation with the vehicle manufacturer, issues recalls when a motor vehicle or item of motor vehicle equipment (including tires) does not comply with a Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard or when there is a safety-related defect in the vehicle or equipment. Work dictated by a recall is generally completed at no charge to the vehicle owner, regardless of whether you are the first owner or a subsequent owner.
